Type Chart

Types are the backbone of every battle in Loomian Legacy. Each Loomian and move carries one or two typings that determine whether damage is doubled, halved, or resisted. Mastering the chart separates smooth route clears from repeated blackouts, and it is non-negotiable for Battle Theatre Walkthrough medals and PvP Team Building. This guide explains how matchups work, how dual types multiply, and how to plan coverage teams without memorizing every cell on day one.

New trainers should read Getting Started for battle flow, then pair this page with How to Catch Loomians so your capture teams resist wild STAB moves while you chip HP safely.

How type effectiveness works

When a move’s type is super effective against a defender’s type, damage typically doubles. Not very effective hits deal reduced damage — often half. Immune interactions (when they exist for specific type pairs) block damage entirely. Same-type attack bonus (STAB) adds extra power when a Loomian uses a move matching its own type.

Defensive typings multiply when a Loomian has two types. A Fire/Plant dual type might be weak to both Water and Air attacks depending on the chart — each applicable weakness or resistance stacks multiplicatively. That is why dual-type Loomians can be fragile or tanky in surprising ways.

Always check both types on dual-type defenders before switching. A move that is neutral against one type may still be super effective overall if the second type is weak.

Core types in Roria

Loomian Legacy includes classic elemental typings plus Roria-specific additions such as Light, Dark, Cyber, Metal, and Tidal that appear heavily in Battle Theatres. Early routes teach Fire, Water, Plant, and Earth interactions; mid-game content layers Light/Dark in Silvent, Fire focus in Heiwa, Cyber/Metal in Sepharite, and Water/Tidal doubles in Atlanthian.

Rather than rote memorization, group types into offensive pairs you will see often:

  • Fire beats Plant and Metal in many scenarios; weak to Water and Earth.
  • Water answers Fire; watch Electric or Plant counters depending on species.
  • Light and Dark counter each other in Silvent theatre teams.
  • Cyber and Metal resist traditional hits — bring specialized counters from mid-game routes.
  • Tidal interacts with Water-themed moves in Atlanthian doubles — read move typings, not only species labels.

Official balance patches adjust rare edges; verify odd matchups in battle if a species received a type change in updates.

Building offensive coverage

Offensive coverage means teaching moves that hit common defensive types super effectively even when they are not STAB. A Water-type sweeper with an Electric or Ice coverage move (names vary by patch) handles species that resist Water STAB alone.

When planning a team for PvP Team Building, list the top five defensive typings in meta and ensure two Loomians can threaten each. Story players can relax to one solid counter per route until Battle Theatres demand broader lists.

Building defensive cores

Defensive coverage means typings that resist or immune common threats long enough to pivot or heal. Pair a Fire check with a Water check so one bad matchup does not collapse two slots. In doubles, two Loomians on field must not share a double weakness to spread moves.

Personality and UP bulk from Rally Ranch extend effective HP, but typing still decides whether a hit is 2× — no amount of TP fixes a hard counter if you stay in unfavorable.

Type chart in Battle Theatres

Each theatre tests specific typings:

Arrive with at least two counters to the theatre’s headline type before challenging leaders. Puzzles aside, many stalls are pure typing losses fixable by catching one route species from How to Catch.

Type chart and gleaming hunts

Gleaming Hunting does not change typings — a gleaming Dimpool hits as hard as a normal one. Typing knowledge still matters because hunt routes place wild Loomians that can KO your catcher. Bring resist typings so Spare setups survive.

Practical study method

Instead of memorizing the full matrix at once:

  1. After each route, write down which types wild Loomians used and what beat them.
  2. Before each Battle Theatre, read the theatre section on this page and catch one counter.
  3. Keep a party of six with no shared double-weakness to the current story boss.
  4. Test matchups in friendly PvP to see real damage numbers with items and Personality.

Community type wheel images help as desk references; cross-check unusual dual types in battle because fan charts lag patches.

Dual-type examples (conceptual)

Understanding multiplication prevents surprises:

  • If Fire move is super effective vs Plant and neutral vs Earth on a Plant/Earth dual type, damage may be 2× overall if Plant side is weak.
  • If both types resist an attack, damage can shrink to ¼ — walls love these slots.
  • Neutral on one type and weak on another still yields a super-effective hit overall.

When unsure, switch to a move of a different type and observe the effectiveness prompt the game displays.

Moves vs species typings

Move typings can differ from species typings. A Water-type Loomian may learn Earth moves for coverage; judge threats by the move about to hit, not only the species icon. This matters in PvP when opponents carry unexpected TMs or tutor moves.

Typing knowledge connects every other system:

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for trainers exploring Roria.

How do dual types work in Loomian Legacy?

Dual-type Loomians multiply weaknesses and resistances from both types. A super-effective move against either relevant type often deals increased damage overall; double resistances can quarter incoming hits.

Which types matter in Battle Theatres?

Silvent emphasizes Light and Dark, Heiwa Fire, Sepharite Cyber and Metal, and Atlanthian Tidal and Water doubles. Build counters before each leader fight.

Does STAB stack with super effective damage?

Yes. Same-type attack bonus adds power on top of type effectiveness. High-damage STAB super-effective hits decide many PvP and story battles.

Where should I catch type counters?

Backtrack to routes before each theatre or boss. The How to Catch guide explains Spare and disc setup once you find a species with the typing you need.

Do gleamings change type matchups?

No. Gleaming Loomians have the same typings as normal forms. Only appearance changes — strategy stays identical.
